![]() ![]() I recently bought too pacus about an inch and a half long. One of them has not eaten since i've bought him 4 days ago and the other one seems to only like a couple fish flakes now and then. I have small feeder fish in the tank and every now and then they just kill them and not eat them. I also have a couple of ghost shrimp and i've tried feeding them shrimp pelts and they won't eat. the bigger of the too the one that hasn't eat at all will suck in the fish flake and then just spit it out not intrested. help please IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() Charlie, our Red Bellied Pacu was 1.5" at Wal-Mart last summer. He's 18" now, in a too small 90 gallon tank next to our dining room table. He begs, so we hand feed him nuts, romaine/red leaf lettuce, apples, table scraps, etc. He likes surface food, so the 5 lb bags of floating pond pellets for gold fish work well. The black tetras and gold fish do well in the tank with him. When he was little, he went through a lot of 4 oz bags of algie pellets, which was too expendsive for us. He gets some spirulina flakes, which we buy in bulk now. Has anyone heard of having P's summer in a pond? We're digging a 10' side, 4' deep pond for him now. He'll winter in a 275 gallon basement tank once we get it set up. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() yes. You can feed it other little fish. I don't know if 5 a day is good, but it will suffice. They like vegetables too, like zuccini and cucumber... IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() I have 2 pacus and at first they did not want to eat either. I had them in my 55 tank. They never killed any fish, but they did tail nip a lot. I have learned that they are more vegitarian than carnivor. Try a leafy veg like lettuce or endive. Mine are not crazy for it, but they are supposed to really like it. I feed mine a slow sinking pellet. I only put in a few at a time so that the food doen't gather on the bottom and rot. I got my pacus at 2 inches and they are already 7 and 6 inches long. If they do not eat the flakes, try a different brand. Pacus are not meat eaters like their cousin the piranha. Good luck to you!! IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() This is going to sound weird but it worked with my pacus. Go to the store and into the baby section. Get the cubed up baby food. What worked for me was turkey and green beans. Give him a few of each. This really should work. IP: Logged |

![]() ![]() ![]() i would stay away from feeding then feeder fish the lack all the vitamins they need. try cichild sticks mine love them they love red grapes seedless stay away from white grapes. when mine were small they ate flakes for a short time then i went to large flakes then the cichlid sticks you can get small to large sticks. any veggie except the light coloured ones they have no nutritional value and they dont digest it well. i would keep them away from goldfish thats how fish get diesesed from the feeders. ![]() ![]() ![]() Hi Brent, Pacu's are vegetarian. Try placing Romaine lettuce in the tank. They should feed off of that. You can however also give them frozen brine shrimp. Even though they are vegetarian they will eat things such as shrimp, feeder fish, Cichlid sticks and shrimp pellets. At one and a half inches they are still a little small for seedless red grapes. Good luck. IP: Logged |
