i just got a 10g and are looking for small african cichlids to stock it with. i am looking at neolamprologus brichardi i think. thats the best name i can get. photos apreiciated.

an allternitive is a butterfly fish.

I have had a 29 gallon neo lamp brichardi tank, and even then it was only a pair. I think it would be difficult to use a 10 gallon though. The brichardi does get rather long (like 4 or 5 inches) and can be rather active. It is a beautiful fish though!
Does anyone have anything to add. Perhaps a pair of rams would be a better choice, as they are smaller. Opinions appreciated!

You could possibly keep one pair (m+f) of kribs. However, I'd be worried that the female wouldn't really have anywhere to run from the male if he gets a bit aggressive towards her as can happen with kribs. If you go for them make sure they have lots of hiding spots and I wouldn't keep anything else in the tank either.

what about a driftwood cave, a coconut shell and a rock cave. and plants like amazon swords?

Yep, that sounds good for kribs! :D Same points though, always watch out for aggression!

or you could try some Nanochromis Cichlid or Demasoni Cichlid
Nanochromis Cichlid adult size 4 inches
Demasoni Cichlid adult size 3 inches
just make sure you get two females

Demasoni's do only get 3" but they're pretty aggressive and despite their size, need a bit more room than 10 gallons. If you have them in a larger tank you can allot about 5 gallons/fish, but one or two really wouldn't be too happy in a 5 or 10 gallon tank.
