i was wondering how does one go about figuring the gallons on a hex tank?

    i know the rectangle formula (H x L x W/231) but i guess that wouldn't work for hex

    thanks in advance

Break it down into 3 shapes - A rectangular prism with a triangle prism on each end, then calculate the volume of each shape. Add the 3 volumes together and divide by 231. Height of the triangle is measured from the peak straight down to the base. Volume formulas are:

    rectangular prism - LxWxH
    triangular prism - 1/2 LxWxH

Since both the triangles should be the same volume multiply the above formula by 2 which would give you the same outcome as LxWxH done only once. Final formula would look like this:

rectangle prism + for both triangle prisms
    LxWxH + LxWxH / 231 = gallons

If you have trouble calculating it list the dimensions and I could calculate it for you.[/img]
