Is just Alfalfa healthy?

Hey Guys, I just got a new 6 year old 015.3hh gelding, he isn't broke to ride yet, so he isn't worked that hard. His old owners were giving him 2 flakes of alfalfa hay in the morning, 2 more at night with a can of whole oats. I decided to not grain him because I feel he isn't working hard enough to need them, but I was wondering if it is healthy for him to just be on alfalfa hay, or if I should mix it up with grass hay. Any ideas?

That should be fine, but if you start working him hard, i would up the rations.
