No really in the first few months all they need is milk, you can give them other stuff too.
Not to be gross or freak anyone out, but I was nursed until I was going into Kindergarten, I just liked it, I guess, I had a younger sister too, she was born when I was 4. But I think I was an extremely rare case. My brothers and sisters still make fun of me.

Ok. A baby can't just live off milk for months... they gotta eat something. Even puppied and horses eat food after the first couple of weeks......

Babies are starting to look like WAY too much work to me!!! LOL....think I need to put off for an extra year...

Babies don't need anything but milk for the first few months. A formula-fed baby generally needs other foods around 4 months and a breastfed baby around 6 months - but all babies are different! You can't just pick a time and say all babies need such-and-such at this time. There are signs of readiness you can look for, like being able to sit independently and when the tongue thrust reflex goes away - meaning you put food in and they swallow it instead of pushing it back out with their tongues. Most people don't know about the tongue thing. They think babies have to "learn" how to eat, but if you just wait the reflex will disappear on its own.

They have baby food and baby cereals that you feed to them with a baby spoon. My daughter would not eat anything like that. She nursed exclusively for 12 months and then would eat a few things like cheerios but not much else. She is still a very picky eater but she is healthy and on the big side of average. My son ate huge bowls of baby cereal and tons of baby food and was a very big baby - now he is an average height and built like a scarecrow.

Babies are much more work than puppies, Sams. :p

I haven't read this book but it's probably a good one: Attachment Parenting by Martha and William Sears (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...002-4342618-3343261?v=glance&s=books&n=507846).

This one looks like an updated version of a book that saved my life when my son was a baby: The Fussy Baby Book by Martha and William Sears (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...f=sr_1_2/002-4342618-3343261?v=glance&s=books)

Anything by Martha and William Sears I trust - they don't advocate all the crap about how you spoil your baby if you hold him too much, etc.

And anything in the La Leche League library is probably good. Their main web page is here: http://www.lalecheleague.org/. If you want to know about breastfeeding, read this book before you read anything else: The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...f=sr_1_1/002-4342618-3343261?v=glance&s=books).
