i have many questions. First, are parakeets fighting because my female one(who is more active) usually uses her beak to scratches my male parakeet on the head. Is this fighting?Sometimes they both use their beak tohit each other or whatever they are doing. My grandfather says they are just playing.......are they? Next question, when parakeets breed, how big are the eggs and what do i have to buy for the eggs? Will it take a year for the parakeets to breed? How small are the new borned parakeets??
    PLease answer.... :) thanks!!

Hi first what your parakeets are doing is normal behaviour this shows that they are bonding with each other.

Second eggs are small and you do not need to get anything for the eggs and the chicks are about 1- 1 1/2 cms in height.

Breeding will only happen when the female is in breeding condition and parakeets are more at risk of egg binding (eggs stuck in oviduct ) than say the cockatiel or parrot so breeding is not advise until alot of research into breeding the genetics of the birds.

Best way to get knowlegde of birds is too find a breeder and see if they would allow you to learn from them in all aspects of taking care of the birds to nutrition and upto breeding.

Hi its usually the male that will put his feet on the females back and he is actually kicking her to see if she is in breeding condition ( ready for mating)

Breeding condition is when the female is ready for mating and should not be allowed to mate until she is 12months old or older.

oh i see. Thank you.Are you sure that you need nothing for the eggs because i saw people talking about a nest box? :?: :?:

You will need a nest box for the female to lay her eggs in but i would advice against breeding until you get a bit more experience and knowlegde of the birds.
