First, I need to know a little more about the situation.

    How big is the tank?
What other fish are in the tank and how big are they?
Is this a red tailed catfish or a redtailed shark (they're two very different fish)?
What are your readings for pH, ammonia, nitrIte, and nitrAte (actual numbers please)?
How often and how large are your water changes?
How long has the tank been running?
    Can you post a picture?
