    Thanks guys....

I was just wondering about Bobo's eyes. They haven't opened yet and I was wondering if there was anything I had to do..like "lick" them with a damp papertowel or anythign. I think they open by themselves but I'm not totally sure.

I read somewhere that you should spend about 1 hour or so with your kitten a day. I usually just feed him and he falls back asleep in his basket. When I try to hold him or spend time with him he just crawls around on me looking for a nipple to suck on. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I shoudl do during this time? ALso 1 full hour is a long time for a little kitten without sleeping. I'm holding him right now and I just fed him and he's still looking for one. He rejected the bottle after 10ml so I dont think hes still hungry.

    By C. Bryant
Today as I sit here all cozy and warm,
I look outside and watch the blustery winter storm.
It wasn't that long ago I was out in the cold,
And like many a stray cat, my story has never been told.

For life as a young kitten was really tough,
The children who had me were much too rough.
One day in self defence I scratched and I bit,
For I'd had enough of being battered and hit.

They became angry and I was thrown out the door,
When I begged to come in, I was told "you don't
    live here anymore."
Oh, where to find food, oh, where to keep warm,
Oh, where to seek shelter from winter's harsh storm.

Every day I looked for food and tried to survive,
I ate from the garbage just to stay alive.
My coat had become matted right down to the skin,
And with no food to eat, I had become very thin.

One day a SCAT volunteer, such a kind soul,
Put out a trap with a smelly food bowl.
With hunger gnawing at my tummy, I entered to dine,
The door crashed shut and I started to yowl and to whine.

My body was shaking and trembling with fear,
She looked inside and softly said "Oh, what a dear!"
She drove me to the vet and said "another from
    the trailer court."
At first their attention and love I did thwart.

It wasn't long before my mattes were shaved and I had
    a new look,
They called me "Mohawk" and entered me in their book.

I could never be sure when they took me from my cage,
Whether, if like the children, I was going to be the
    victim of their rage.
"Oh, what to do with Mohawk" Linda said to her friend,
"With this biting there seems to be no end.

He is tame, so putting him back in a colony won't do,
And the only volunteer who won't be afraid of him has to be you."

Soon I was loaded into a kennel and on my way to a new house.
This place isn't so bad, there's lots of food, a soft bed & even
a toy mouse.. Now when I go to bite, my new Mom gently takes me by the scruff,
And says "No Mohawk", that's quite enough!

Life here is good, I can't believe my luck,
I have lots of food, love and I've become quite a suck!
Sitting in the window and watching the birds is such fun,
I can smell the fresh air and bask in the sun.

I love to help make popcorn and watch as it flies down the chute,
And dipping my paws in the melting butter is a real hoot!
"Oh Mohawk, out of the butter" I get threatened with a squirt,
But water from a spritzer bottle surely won't hurt.

My fur has grown back, all silky and soft,
And I pretend I'm a lion lounging in my loft.
Life certainly is wonderful as I sit on the inside of
    the outside door,
And with a screened in deck to enjoy, I couldn't want for more.

I love to snuggle under the covers to sleep,
I even allow the dog her place on the bed to keep.
I've heard my foster Mom say,
"Mohawk, you've stolen my heart and here you will stay."

Oh God in heaven, please hear my prayer,
For the other cats on the street to have someone to care.

    (tear  http://heg.sphosting.com/videoresources.html)

    Thats enough to chew on

That poem is really cute tho. It brightens your day!

Please update me with advice for Bobo(above)
    Thanks

I think the eyes will open on their own when ready...just watch for any oozing which might indicate an infection. The fosters I had last year their eyes weren't open yet and I don't remember their mother doing anything.

I'd spend as much time as possible with the kitten...remember Mom cat is with the kittens much of the time when they are that young - and you are now Mom.

The fosters I have right now their mother was PTS when they were about 3-4 weeks old and they've been really tough to socialize. They didn't have their mom to show them the ropes when they really needed her. She did give them great litterbox advice since there have been no accidents at all...but they did need more time with her.

Petting or a nice soft brush would act like mom washing the kitten and they react nicely to that.

Well Bobo watched (more like listened-his eyes arent open yet) part of the Cubs game today (Cubs fan). I layed with him for like 2 hours today.
There were a couple things that seem odd:

He hasn't opened his eyes yet. It'll be 10 days I've had him tomorrow and I know he was like 2 days old or more when I found him. I know it's not a big deal yet but I thought theyd be open by now.

Another thing- His left hind leg seems to be weaker than his right. He pulls himself around with his front paws (both ok) but he keeps tipping over (more like rolling) to the left side. He uses his right back leg more than the left. When he moves, the left one disappears under his big blly and he rolls over. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it when I look at it and compare them. It could just be because he's still learning and his muscles are strong yet. I probably shouldn't be too worried.

    Any suggestions?? :?

This was taken from Mary's post to you. I wouldn't worry about muscle weakness yet as they are not expected to walk yet. Maybe he's right pawted er footed. I don't know about the eye thing though.

    Yeah he is....

Target called back this morning-I start orientation Saturday.

Bobo's eyes aren't open yet-10 days since I found him when he was 2 or 3 days old. Maybe they'll open tomorrow? He is just beautiful. His fur is kind long- about an inch or so. He's comming along good.

There's this thing called Purrinlot's Kitten calendar that tells you the progress of the kitten if you give it the birth date. According to it,
    Tue 22 Jun 2004 -
Sun 27 Jun 2004 The kitten's eyes will start to open. Their sight is still very foggy.

Oh well I'm not worrying yet.
