Wet/ dry filter question.

    I recieved a wet/dry filter for free from craigslist.org when I got my 55 gal acrylic... I believe it was set up with freshwater but when I did some reaserch on what a wet/dry filter is it seems that its only for salt. Is this true?

    They can be used on freshwater too.
